There's so much to say about our incredible little pony named Penny. She truly was the sweetest and most honest horse we had ever met.
Penny joined our horse family in 2018 as a rescue horse. Back then, she was a firecracker who wouldn't do anything but run around all day. This is why we gave her the nickname "Little Red Rocket." Penny got some training and eventually became a lesson horse. That's when I started riding her. I absolutely fell in love with Penny and I rode her every time I came out to the barn. I loved riding Penny and if Penny could talk I bet she would say that she loved being ridden by me too.
Unfortunately, in the beginning of 2022, Penny started having some stomach issues. She had dealt with issues before, but never to this extent. We became worried, so we stopped riding her for a while. Of course I still came out to take care of and be with her, but her pain got worse and we realised that surgery was required. Luckily a friend at the barn was able to pay for her surgery and recovery. However, after surgery, her wound got infected and she suffered from several complications inside her stomach. This time, surgery would not help. We had to put her down on February 26, 2022.
But Penny's story does not end there. We still have this program in her name and we are going to honor her by taking what she taught us about life and teaching it to children who are around the same age I was when I first met Penny. Her legacy lives on through this program and I'm sure she's happy leaving this world knowing that her wisdom won't be taken for granted.
